From Longing to Belonging
When I first came to the United States from Chile, I never imagined I would stay. What began as a temporary move for my husband’s graduate studies became permanent as political tensions back home escalated. Settling in Indiana, I struggled with displacement—my accent set me apart, and I longed to belong.
Over time, I discovered this feeling was universal. Many people—immigrants, women seeking equality, or anyone yearning for acceptance—shared the same quiet struggle. This realization shaped my art. Through bold colors, large canvases, and mixed media, I tell stories of belonging and invite viewers to see themselves within them.
This body of work represents that journey—my own search for belonging, the stories of others who share it, and the connections that form when we see ourselves reflected in one another.
